Land Acknowledgements
We wish to acknowledge the traditional land that team members for this project work on:
The University of Toronto and the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) operate on the traditional land of the Huron-Wendat and Petun First Nations, the Seneca, and the Mississaugas of the Credit River.
The University of Manitoba operates on the original lands of Anishinaabeg, Cree, Ojibwe-Cree, Dakota, and Dene peoples, and on the National Homeland of the Red River Métis.
The University of Saskatchewan operates on Treaty 6 Territory and the Homeland of the Métis.
The University of Calgary operates on the traditional territories of the peoples of Treaty 7, which include the Blackfoot Confederacy (comprised of the Siksika, the Piikani, and the Kainai First Nations), the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Stoney Nakoda (including Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Goodstoney First Nations). The University of Calgary is situated on land Northwest of where the Bow River meets the Elbow River, a site traditionally known as Moh’kins’tsis to the Blackfoot, Wîchîspa to the Stoney Nakoda, and Guts’ists’i to the Tsuut’ina.
The University of British Columbia operates on the land of the Coast Salish Peoples, including the territories of the xwməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Stó:lō and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations, and the Syilx (Okanagan) Peoples.
We respect the Treaties that were made on these territories, we acknowledge the harms and mistakes of the past, and we dedicate ourselves to move forward in partnership with Indigenous communities in a spirit of reconciliation and collaboration. Today, these meeting places are still home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island, and we are grateful to be able to work on this land.
